Marine Stand Guard Over Casket

If you haven’t seen this picture, you should!

This is an incredible picture of a fallen Marine’s wife.

Unfortunately, Second Lieutenant Jim Cathey of the United States Marines was killed in Iraq.

He was killed by an explosive device.

He was only in Iraq for about a month when he died.

He was from Reno, Nevada.

He graduated from Reno High School.

After graduating from Reno High School, he attended the University of Colorado At Boulder.

He also graduated from the University of Colorado.

His widow, Katherine Cathey, was naturally upset over his death.

He gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

At the time Lieutenant Cathey was killed, his wife was pregnant.

She didn’t want to leave his side and the funeral home let her stay overnight on a mattress.

The Marines asked if she wanted them to stand guard.

She did.

And so the Marine Stands Guard Over Casket has become an iconic picture that I won’t ever forget.

The light on her face is from her laptop.

She was listening to songs that reminded her of her fallen husband.

We all salute you.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Second Lieutenant Jim Cathey.

This picture has hit me in my gut emotionally.

Just looking at it sears my soul.

I am so sorry this happened.

I cannot get this picture out of my head.
