Mark Barhanovich – Rules Company Broke
Mark Barhanovich – Rules Company Broke
On my blog about Mark Barhanovich yesterday, I got a lot of emails about what rules I thought the company broke.
Remember that a company has an absolute rule to make sure what it does is safe for boaters like Mark Barhanovich.
And safe for me and you.
And when they don’t, they are responsible for it.
Mark Barhanovich – Broken Rules
So, here are som rules that I think the company broke.
Dredge pipelines (like the one in question) “shall display” lights at night with one row of yellow lights flashing 50-70 times per minute and they must be not less than 1 meter above the water and equally spaced.
And the pipes have to (6) Not more than 10 meters apart where the pipeline crosses a navigable channel. Where the pipeline does not cross a navigable channel the lights must be sufficient in number to clearly show the pipeline’s length and course.
Then, they’ve got to have two red lights at each end of the pipeline, including the ends in a channel where the pipeline is separated to allow vessels to pass.
There’s other rules but one I want to talk about that I thinks more important.
Mark Barhanovich – Company Lacked Good Common Sense
Forget rules!!
Shouldn’t a company have enough good common sense to know that it needs to make sure boaters like Mark Barhanovich are injured or killed when crossing a pipe?
Shouldn’t a company have enough good common sense to know it needs to protect me or you so we don’t get killed? Or so our kids don’t get killed?
I mean, is this what we’ve come down to in America?
There’s no accoutable for your actions?
Blame the victim.
Blame the rules.
Blame someone other than yourself.
Do you now say that we should forget about being man or woman enough to stand up and say I was wrong and I should be held accountable?
I hope not.
My family and I’ll bet your family certainly hopes not.
